Do you have ankyloglossia (short tongue tie)?
Short tongue tie, also known as ankyloglossia, is a congenital condition that limits the tongue’s range of motion. A short bridle connects the tongue to the oral cavity and anchors the lower surface of the tongue to the inner surface of the gum. However, despite the above, the presence of a short tongue bridle today is not a strange phenomenon, the manifestation of which can force the patient to change his lifestyle.
However, it should be noted here that increasing age causes specific changes reflected in the tone of speech or the pronunciation of sounds. People with short bridles have difficulty sticking out their tongues and also have problems with eating, which is reflected even in the process of breastfeeding in infancy.
Wondering if you have ankyloglossia? To find out, we offer a small test:
Does the tongue reach the upper front teeth?
Do you have a heart-shaped tongue when you stick out?
Do you have difficulty sticking your tongue out of your mouth?
When you try to stretch your tongue, does it just bend in an arc?
If you find after passing the mentioned test that it is not easy to bring your tongue to the front teeth and your tongue is heart-shaped, this indicates the presence of a short tongue bridle. In this case, consulting a dentist to perform a small operation is necessary. The surgical treatment of short tongue ties is called a frenectomy. Frenectomy is not included in the ranks of planned mini-operations unless, of course, it does not interfere with the patient’s daily life.
Postoperative period: If the operation is performed without the help of a laser, stitches may cause some discomfort after frenulum dissection. For several days, the patient talked as little as possible and limited solid food intake. After a week, nothing will remind you of the operation.
